First Things First

What is the first thing that passes your lips in the morning? Is it coffee, a donut, bagel, or a soda perhaps?

I have to say, I have never understood how someone can have soda first thing in the morning. I am not judging, I just don’t understand. I have a friend who would drink a soda first thing when she woke up. On the flip side, some people probably can’t understand why I would have plain coffee first thing in the morning. But, I digress…

When I am following a healthy eating lifestyle (yes, I know, I should always follow a heathy eating lifestyle) I try to drink a large glass of water first thing in the morning.

It’s a tough habit for me to start but once I get started I find that I tend to drink more water throughout the day.

Benefits of being hydrated: (the following list are things that I have experienced and may not be the same for everyone).

  • Reduced puffiness in my face
  • Less inflammation in my joints
  • Less irritability
  • Better digestion
  • Weight loss
  • Clearer thinking
  • Lower blood pressure

It has also been said that, ‘the first thing that passes your lips in the morning will be what you crave throughout the day’. I have to agree with this statement. After of few days of starting my day off with water, I find that I crave it more and drink more of it throughout the day.
