I love it when my family searches through the refrigerator and freezer, when they come home to visit, searching for some yummy deliciousness that they expect to find in mom/grandma’s stores.
What have they found in the past few years? A mostly empty (of baked and home cooked foods) refrigerator. All be it, a refrigerator that had lots of fresh veggies and protein, it didn’t hold the goodies that they expect to find in mom’s refrigerator/freezer.
The “pivot” is real…I realize there is a very happy medium.
When I was following a strict weight loss program, I happened to be coached by a woman who has always loathed cooking (she has been very open about this fact). She thoroughly enjoyed the pre-packaged foods that we were consuming from the company. I agree, it was very easy, but for someone who enjoys cooking/baking and tasting really good food; this pre-packaged food got old real fast.
At the time, I didn’t think much of it; I was on a mission to drop some weight and that program had been a last ditch effort. Now, I see there is a happy medium for those of us who really enjoy cooking/baking.
I am not 100% sure how this is going to look in our household yet. One thing I do know for sure is: Each time one of our family members looks for goodies in our refrigerator, they will find them.
On today’s baking list:
- Cream Cheese Blueberry/Raspberry Bread
- Chocolate Zucchini Bread
- Monster Cookies
And, since it is rhubarb season, let’s not forget Rhubarb Kuchen.
